I have a weak spot for watches that help you travel through different time zones, without losing track of home time. We all know about the GMT watches that just have an extra hour hand,leather purses wholesale, to display home time (or 24h notation). However, there are also watches that can flip through different timezones with only a push on a button or turning an extra crown. Technically speaking, these watches are much more complicated than the ones with ‘just’ an extra hour hand like the Rolex GMT-Master or ETA 2893-A2 based watches (Omega, Linde Werdelin etc.).

World Timer watches, as they are being called, attract me since the day I became interested in wrist watches. During all these years, my taste did not change much with respect to watches that have this specific complication. My own top 3 of world timer watches, is listed below:

1. Patek Philippe World Time, ref.5130 P

Since 2007, this reference is available in 39mm in diameter (instead of 37mm) which makes it an even more interesting watch that it already was for me. The P in the reference number stands for Platinum, the material of the case and clasp. The guilloché pattern dial in metallic blue is just mesmerizing imho. The pusher at 10 o’clock will guide you through the 24 different timezones, indicated with city names per time zone. The caliber 240HU movement has all the Patek-works in terms of finish, including a 22ct gold rotor. A Patek ref.5130 P can be found for approx. 30.000 euro / $39,000.00 USD.

2. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master World Geographique, ref. 1528420

JLC’s World Geographique is one of my all-time favorite watches from this famous manufacturer. By using the crown on 2 o’clock, you can select a city from the city disc and the sub dial at 7 o’clock will show this ‘priority time’. The city disc also indicates how to operate in case daylight savings (summer time) are applicable. JLC’s caliber 936 movement is – of course – an in-house movement and consists of 322 parts for this complication timepiece. You should be able to find a stainless steel JLC World Geographique (as pictured above) in the range of 7.500 – 8.000 euro / $9,650.00 – $10,400.00 USD.

3. Girard-Perregaux WW.TC ref. 49865

Girard-Perregaux has been producing WW.TC models for 10 years now, this ‘Small Seconds’ version being the most basic model. As far as we can speak about ‘basic’ anyway. The other WW.TC models feature a chronograph or even a perpetual calendar. Then there’s the WW.TC ‘Financial’, to keep track of the opening and closing of the world’s main stock markets. I’ll keep it basic here, the ‘Small Seconds’ model cover all my needs when I travel. Ticking inside this WW.TC is GP’s in-house movement caliber GP03300 with a modest power reserve of 46 hours. I haven’t seen this particular model for sale yet, but list price is approx. 9,400 euro / $12.200,00 USD.

Of course, this top 3 is my own top 3 and does in no way reflect the top 3 best world timers or whatever. The Patek Philippe is most desirable I think, and I could settle for the white gold version as it is much cheaper. The Jaeger-LeCoultre would be my number 1 choice when I would be in the running for a world timer watch though. A superb timepiece for a price that I could justify (if I need to). However, Nomos will be releasing their ‘World Timer’ in Q2 of 2011 and that one will be approx. 3450 euro. I had the pleasure to fiddle around with it during SalonQP, and was very impressed.

There isn't a whole lot of information available on the new TechnoMarine ceramic ladies' watches, but here's what I know so far:

Although TechnoMarine is not the first to create a ceramic watch, they are the
first to add color. Apparently, the process of making a ceramic watch is such that
it's very tricky to add color, and therefore all previous ceramic watches have
been white, black or gray. TechnoMarine has seemingly mastered the process, however,
as they now offer some very cool looking new ladies' watches in blue, baby blue,
pink, brown, black, white, and orange.

This isn't ceramic like so many saucers we've all dropped and broken over the
years. These watches are constructed out of industrial strength
ceramic formulated from a combination of two different types of metal powers, extremely
high temperatures, and very high pressure. The result is a substance that is apparently
about as hard as substances get (not counting diamonds), and is used to protect
spacecraft from the massively high temperatures they experience while reentering
the earth's atmosphere. If it's good enough for the Space Shuttle, it's probably
good enough for a chronograph.

Both the case the band of these chronograph watches are ceramic, the crystal is
sapphire (no sense in having an indestructible watch with a wimpy crystal),factory direct purses, the
movement is ETA quartz, and you can either get a ceramic bezel, or one with 125
diamonds imbedded in it. No word on where these watches will be available except "at
selected stores only". Lots of diamonds and a limited supply are certain to
mean high prices, but TechnoMarine's site has a store locator, so if you're dying
to see one of these in person, start calling around.

3) Loose parts
Hands, crystals, pins, backs, and crowns have been known to fall off quite easily. These are basically manufacturing defects, but can also result from aggressive use by the consumer. The back of the watches are not screwed on – they are snapped on, so they can fall out easily. The crowns can lose their threading and won’t screw in any more. If you pull it out too hard, it can damage the movement and you can’t set the time or date. Crystals and pins are known to fall off. Remember that even though you are paying $100-$150 for the replica, it is only worth about $20

4) Water Damage
None of the Asian-made automatic Rolex replicas can take any water. If you wash your hands with the watch on, you risk getting water inside. There are several reasons for this problem. Firstly, the lack of a proper gasket on the crown or back of the watch, or a loose component will allow water to seep in. Avoid taking showers with them, and never swim with them.

5) Imperfect Dials
Dust particles and tiny hairs seem to appear on top of the dials. If you look carefully, you’ll be able to spot them on most of the replicas. This is likely caused by dirty manufacturing conditions. GMT Master II.
The other Rolex announcement at Basel of interest is the new Rolex Milgauss, so named for its ability to resist a magnetic field of 1,rolex replica watch,000 Gauss.

Why should you care?

If you take a mechanical watch into a strong magnetic field, some of
the parts in the movement become magnetized which causes problems;
typically the watch will start to run quite fast and require
demagnetization. The hairspring, made of an alloy called Nivarox,
is particularly susceptible. A watch is normally
considered "antimagnetic" (DIN 8309) if it can ignore 4,replica rolex watch,800 A/m.
This works out to about 60 gauss, or 6% of what the new
Rolex is rated for. Rolex achieved the superior rating of the Milgauss by encasing the movement

with the 3131 movement. There are white and black dial versions available,
both with a nifty and surprisingly modern lightning shaped second hand
and 'ROLEXROLEXROLEX' around the face on the chapter ring.
(As Christian noted, for better or worse, the new models
are more heavily branded than their predecessors.)
One difference between the two versions is that the black dial has a
sapphire crystal that is slightly green at an angle, as you can see from the
image gallery on their site. List price on both is rumored to be $5,900.

One word of caution: for the new model, Rolex also lists "medical
imaging" as a target market, but a bit of math reveals this to be disingenuous.
Current MRI systems start at 0.3T and go
up to 5T. Even the smallest of those is 3 times the rating of the Milgauss,
so don't take your new watch into the MRI!

I used to work in a couple of physics labs, so I like seeing
reintroduction like this. Nowadays, the IWC Ingenieur and
Ball Engineer are the only competition for mechanical watches designed to function in
strong magnetic fields. Compared to the competition, the Milgauss adds an elegant face, first-class movement,
the unique second hand, and the green sapphire crystal.
I've never considered a Rolex before,wholesale rolex replica watch, but if I do, it'll be the black-faced Milgauss.

Although I have mentioned the Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA All Black before (click here), I never really published about it, since I don’t want to become too biased. On the other hand, this blog represents my own interest in watches and brands, so why not? Fellow Dutchman Martin Wilmsen’s website (WristWatchPhoto), normally dedicated to Panerai watches, mentioned the SpidoLite SA All Black a few days ago. I was blown away by the pictures he took and he told me I could use them for my own blog if I wanted to. Well, here you go. The SpidoLite SA All Black DLC version was introduced on the 15th of October 2009,replica rolex submariner, retailing at 9.800 Euro. I think it is important to stretch that despite its size (dimensions: 46mm (w) by 49mm (l) by 12mm (h)), the Linde Werdelin watches wear very comfortably on the wrist.

Review Linde Werdelin Oktopus Moonphase Complicati

This news came in yesterday evening, a new Linde Werdelin Oktopus model with a Moonphase Complication. The Oktopus was introduced during BaselWorld 2009 and during my interview with them I was able to fiddle around with it a bit. The bezel with embossed numerals reminded me a bit about my precious Rolex Yacht-Master, and which I therefore really like. This new titanium Oktopus features a solid rose gold bezel, together with the moonphase complication the ultimate luxury diving watch.

If you have a pale skin like me, you know you have to stay away from gold watches. However, a rose gold bezel on a titanium case will suit you fine. It is actually the only possibility for me to wear a gold watch.

Also this time, Morten Linde and Jorn Werdelin got help from Svend Andersen (like he did with the SpidoLite SA models) to work on the complicated automatic movement based on Frederic Piguet caliber 1150. The moon disc is made out of Super Luminova, which will make sure it is visible during every time of the day (or night). Svend Andersen built this moonphase complication based on the date feature of the Piguet movement, allowing to show a countdown to the next full moon. The transparent sapphire case back of the Oktopus reveals the Andersen-modified Piguet movement. The titanium watch is water resistant to 888 meters and includes an automatic helium escape valve located on 9 o’clock in the case.

Normally, Linde Werdelin watches are limited to either 22, 44, 88 or 222 pieces each. However, the LW Oktopus is also a bit different in this aspect. It is limited to 29 pieces, connoting to the days before the next full moon. The Oktopus Moonphase Complication will be available for pre-order in September 2010.
